A French Manche a Gigot, or leg of lamb bone holder, is used to secure a leg of lamb while carving. Just place the bone into the end, which looks like a crown. It spreads open to insert the bone. It has a screw to secure the bone so it shouldn't move.
It is silverplate. Circa 1860-80.
